Warner Bros. will do without a U.S. theatrical release for “Lost River,” Ryan Gosling’s much-derided directorial debut, which stars Saoirse, Christina Hendricks, Eva Mendes, Matt Smith and Iain De Caestecker. Instead, the studio will release the fantasy drama via home entertainment in April. “Lost River” premiered to mostly negative notices in May at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section.
Variety’s Justin Chang gave it a pan: “‘Lost’ is indeed the operative word for this violent fairy tale about a fractured family trying to survive among the ruins of a city overrun by thugs, sexual predators and other demons….”
Warner Bros. acquired U.S. rights in 2013 during Cannes, where Sierra/Affinity sold international rights to 20 markets. The film, which was shot in Detroit, was called “How to Catch a Monster” at that point.
Production companies are Marc Platt, Phantasma Films and Bold Films production. Producers are Platt, Gosling, Adam Siegel, Michel Litvak and David Lancaster.

The first promotional stills from “Stockholm, Pennsylvania” have been released, and we’ve added them to our photo gallery. The film is set to premiere during the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, which runs from January 22 to February 1, but not date has been set yet.
According to the website Variety, the film “The Grand Budapest Hotel” has joined the 2015 awards race!
On Nov. 19, voting began for SAG nominations. On Dec. 1, art directors and producers kick off the guild voting, while the New York Film Critics Circle are first out of the gate by announcing their winners.
As we get down to the wire, Hollywood calendars are jam-packed with awards events. And at each gathering, voters trade notes about titles they’ve seen recently and the handful of films they need to see. The conversation is always dominated by the latest contenders — and yet this year, “The Grand Budapest Hotel” keeps coming up.
The Wes Anderson film premiered at Berlin almost a year ago and bowed domestically in March, which in an awards-season-timetable is the equivalent of 200 years ago. It has long been on VOD and video, so as a flock of terrific films open to fanfare and media attention, “Budapest” may seem like old news. Au contraire, mes amis.
Childline provides a 24 hour listening service for all children up to the age of 18. The Childline phone service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and it receives thousands of calls every year. These are answered by volunteers and staff who are trained to listen and understand young people. Young people contact the service for a wide range of reasons such as bullying, sexuality, everyday chat and lots of other issues. This service is currently in danger of closing due to funding.
Childline has warned it will have to shut down its night-time service unless it raises more than €1 million over the coming months. Curtailing the service at night would “force 45,000 voices into silence”, the charity claimed.
“We have issued an emergency funding appeal as, for many children, Childline is the only support option available to them,” said Caroline O’Sullivan, the interim chief executive of the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ISPCC). “ If Childline cannot continue to provide a 24-hour service, some children will be forced into silence. Only the generosity of the Irish public to our appeal can stop this from happening now.”
The charity said its night-time service has grown over the last 15 years to become a vital support to children in distress. It says that in many instances late-night calls are from children who, due to their domestic circumstances, cannot call at other times of the day.
Childline receives 1,800 calls per day with night-time calls accounting for about 11 per cent of all contacts.
Ms O’Sullivan said her greatest concern was for children in abusive situations who account for a significant portion of calls. “These children really need us on a 24/7 basis and thousands of these children will not be heard next year if we cannot raise the funds to keep the night service open,” she said.
Childline has launched a funding appeal through the month of November, seeking donations online, www.savechildline24.ie, or via a €4 text donations which can be made by texting CHILDLINE to 57911.

Also this week The Late Late Show will launch its Toy Show Jumper Competition. A spokesperson for the show explained to RTÉ Ten that they are looking for a member of the public to knit a Christmas jumper for Ryan to wear on the Toy Show.
They said: “As with every year Ryan will wear a festive jumper on The Late Late Toy Show. Usually he buys one but this year he needs the public’s help.
“Their mission should they chose to accept – it is to knit Ryan a Toy Show Jumper! If the jumper committee approves it he’ll wear it on the Toy Show.”
If you would like to enter, send your finished jumper to The Late Late Toy Show Jumper, PO Box 170, Dublin 4. It needs to arrive no later than Friday November 21.
Don’t send anything that you are too attached to as The Late Late Show will not be able to send them back.
