Saoirse was on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert last night to talk about Lady Bird! This video features a scene from the movie of which we had only seen a few seconds in the trailer, and Saoirse talks about growing up catholic, wanting to have a different name as a child and why she believes the movie resonates with so many people. It’s a great interview!

I know, the amount of acronyms we’ve been dealing with lately is maddening, but those society names are so long! Saoirse has received Best Actress nominations for her work in Lady Bird by the Los Angeles Film Critics Society and the Detroit Film Critics Society! The first also nominated her for Best Performance by an Actor or Actress under 23 years old. It’s finally here! Saoirse’s Actors on Actors episode with Kristen Wiig has been published by Variety, and it is absolutely glorious. You can watch it below.
Saoirse is set to receive the Best Actress Honor at the Palm Springs Film Festival on January 2, 2018! Two years ago, on the exact same date, they honored her with the International Star Award. Back then it was for her work in the film “Brooklyn”, and now it’s for “Lady Bird”. The news comes from Deadline.
EXCLUSIVE: Saoirse Ronan’s performance in Lady Bird which has already been on a roll this season adds yet another honor by being named the recipient of this year’s Desert Palm Achievement Award from the Palm Springs International Film Festival.
Playing a catholic high school teenager trying to escape her family and surroundings in Sacramento, Ronan has already been honored with Best Actress prizes from the Gotham Awards and the New York Film Critics Circle, in addition to nabbing an Independent Spirit nomination for Lead Actress. She also is coming off her hosting gig on this weekend’s Saturday Night Live and is considered a strong bet for her third Oscar nomination following previous nods for 2007’s Atonement and 2015’s Brooklyn. Ronan joins previously announced 2018 PSIFF honorees Timothee Chalamet, Gal Gadot, Holly Hunter, Allison Janney, Gary Oldman, Sam Rockwell, and The Shape Of Water. “Saoirse Ronan delivers one of the most outstanding performances of this year as an outspoken high school student growing up in Sacramento in the critically acclaimed Lady Bird,” said Festival Chairman Harold Matzner. Past recipients of the Actress honor include several who went on to win the Oscar including Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, Julianne Moore, Sandra Bullock, Halle Berry, Marion Cotillard, Anne Hathaway, and Charlize Theron.
The award will be presented at the 29th annual PSIFF awards gala on January 2, 2018. The Festival runs January 2-15.
Saoirse continues to promote Lady Bird all over the United States, and The Los Angeles Times has just posted a new interview with her, which features a brand new photo session. We’ve added it to our gallery, and you can read their article below.
When Saoirse Ronan found out she’d be spending a couple of weeks in Los Angeles to promote her new film, “Lady Bird,” she asked to stay in an apartment instead of a hotel. She wanted to be able to light her Diptyque candles, do her own laundry and drink herbal tea before bed.
“I think it’s good for me to go back at the end of the night and look after myself,” says Ronan, 23.
But when she arrived at her temporary L.A. home, she found bags of groceries from Whole Foods awaiting her. Her mother, more than 5,000 miles away in Ireland, had ordered the provisions online.
“She bought vegetables for me to cook with,” the actress says. “I have such a great mam. She makes sure I’m getting a good dinner from across the pond.”
Ronan is exceptionally close to her mother, Monica. Growing up as an only child in Carlow, Ireland’s second-smallest county, she relished her relationship with her homemaker mother and actor father. They’d all watch “Seinfeld” together, and Ronan was such a rule-follower that she willingly did the dishes, because she wanted her parents “to be happy.”
Saoirse won Best Actress at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards today, and “Lady Bird” picked up Best Film! Congratulations to the cast and crew, that’s such a big achievement. This is the 2nd time Saoirse wins Best Actress at the NYFCC, the 1st was a couple of years ago for “Brooklyn”.
