As part of the lead up to next week’s Toronto Film Festival, Entertainment Weekly has posted a new behind-the-scenes preview at the filming of ‘Lady Bird’ with Saoirse, her co-star Timothee Chalamet, and director Greta Gerwig.
Saoirse’s presence at Toronto International Film Festival has been confirmed! She’ll be attending the premieres of Lady Bird and On Chesil Beach, both during the event’s opening weekend. The festival’s full lineup has been revealed, including more information about both movies, such as new summaries and running times.

A rebellious young woman (Saoirse Ronan) navigates the pressures and constraints of Catholic school and life in Sacremento, in Greta Gerwig’s solo directorial debut.
Christine McPherson (Saoirse Ronan, also appearing at this year’s Festival in On Chesil Beach) — affectionately known and self-proclaimed as Lady Bird — is an ambitious, bright, and precocious high school senior. Longing to break free of suburban Sacramento, she dreams of a different life full of east coast skyscrapers, Ivy League universities, and cosmopolitan culture.
With modest grades and no alumni connections to speak of, Lady Bird needs extracurriculars to beef up her college applications. Joining the drama club leads to new friends (sometimes at the expense of old ones), first loves, and a social life in full swing. Dealing with her critical mother and succeeding at math do not come as easily. With her dad recently laid off, her mom working double shifts as a nurse, and her brother and his girlfriend — Berkeley grads — working at the supermarket, she is keenly aware that post–high school life is no walk in the park. Old enough to appreciate what she has, but not always mature enough to show it, sometimes she just wants to go shopping for her prom dress rather than putting her clothes away.
The first promotional stills from Lady Bird have been released! Both of them feature Saoirse, and they have been added to our photo gallery. Friendly reminder the film is set to premiere at Toronto International Film Festival in September, then at New York Film Festival in October, and finally all around the United States in November 10.
‘Lady Bird’ was confirmed to be part of the 55th New York Film Festival’s main lineup, which will run from September 28 to October 15 of this year. It will premiere at the festival just weeks after its premiere at Toronto. The US limited release date is also scheduled on November 10.
Dir. Greta Gerwig, USA, 2017, 93m
Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut is a portrait of an artistically inclined young woman (Saoirse Ronan) trying to define herself in the shadow of her mother (Laurie Metcalf) and searching for an escape route from her hometown of Sacramento. Moods are layered upon moods at the furious pace of late adolescence in this lovely and loving film, which shifts deftly from one emotional and comic register to the next. Lady Bird is rich in invention and incident, and it is powered by Ronan, one of the finest actors in movies. With Lucas Hedges and Timothée Chalamet as the men in Lady Bird’s life, Beanie Feldstein as her best friend, and Tracy Letts as her dad. An A24 release.

According to Deadline, A24 has acquired worldwide distribution rights to Saoirse’s upcoming film Lady Bird, directed by Greta Gerwig. The article states that they are planning a fall release in partnership with IAC Films.
DEADLINE: A24 has landed worldwide distribution rights to Lady Bird, the comedy that marks the directorial debut of Greta Gerwig. The film, which stars Saoirse Ronan, gives A24 another picture with awards potential heading into Oscar season. The picture will be released in the fall in partnership with IAC Films.
Ronan plays a Sacramento teenager seeking to escape her small town to attend college in New York City.
Scott Rudin, Eli Bush, and Evelyn O’Neill produced the film, and Gerwig wrote the script. Ronan stars with freshly minted Tony-winner Laurie Metcalf, Lucas Hedges, Tracy Letts, Timothée Chalamet, and Beanie Feldstein.
Gerwig is repped by UTA and Management 360.
Saoirse was sighted on the set of ‘Lady Bird’ in New York City back in October. Our site was offline then, so we have just added the pictures to our photo gallery. The film does not have a release date yet.
According to an article just posted by Mike Fleming Jr on Deadline, Saoirse is set to star in ‘Lady Bird’, the writing and directorial debut of actress Greta Gerwig. IAC Films is financing the film, which is being produced by Scott Rudin, Eli Bush and Evelyn O’Neill.
Ronan will play a high school senior, spending her last year at home in Sacramento. Deal comes as Ronan was just Oscar nominated for Best Actress for her performance in Brooklyn, the John Crowley-directed film that debuted at Sundance last year. It’s her second Oscar nom, following her breakthrough turn in Atonement. Ronan also got Golden Globe, BAFTA and SAG nominations for Brooklyn, which was released November 4 by Fox Searchlight.
Ronan will work this around her Broadway debut this spring in Arthur Miller’s classic drama The Crucible, which Rudin is also producing. She recently wrapped an adaptation of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull, and was last seen in Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel. Ronan is represented by CAA and Macfarlane Chard.
Gerwig is getting behind the camera after co-writing with director Noah Baumbach Mistress America, a film she starred in. Gerwig is also starring in Jackie, the drama that chronicles Jacqueline Kennedy’s four nightmare days following the assassination of her husband, John F. Kennedy. She is also part of the ensemble cast of Weiner-Dog, which premieres here at Sundance, and plays the title role in Rebecca Miller’s Maggie’s Plan. Gerwig is repped by UTA, Management 360 and Felker Toczek Suddleson Abramson.
