Saoirse’s Interview for USA Today

After Oscar nominations morning, Saoirse was interviewed by USA Today about her new NYC apartment and her stylist, Elizabeth Saltzman’s, plans for her Oscar dress. The article also mentions that she officially begins Broadway rehearsals for The Crucible  on January 25!

Newly Oscar-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan has shopping on the brain.

Not for a designer dress for the Academy Awards (Feb. 28); her stylist is taking care of that. Instead, the best actress nominee is spending the day outfitting her New York City apartment ahead of her Broadway debut in The Crucible, which starts rehearsals Jan. 25 (and opens April 7).

“I have to go shopping. I have to kit out my new apartment,” she says by phone. “I got all the furniture, but I want to get some cushions and get a couple of throws to put on the couch — and loads of candles.”

Now her stylist, Elizabeth Saltzman, is busy crafting her Oscars look. “She’s been sketching for the last month, but I’m so superstitious I haven’t even talked about it,” says Ronan. “I haven’t said the word ‘Oscar’ for the last year.”

But the fashion aspect of awards season been more fun than expected, Ronan allows. “When I started working with her, I said, ‘I don’t want to wear any pink, I don’t like flowers and I don’t like glitter.’ All she’s put me in has been pink dresses, flowery trousers, glittery jumpsuits,” Ronan laughs. “She’s the best.”

Saoirse Reacts to Oscar Nomination

In case you missed it, Saoirse received her 2nd Academy Award nomination yesterday for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role. (with Brooklyn also picking up Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay nods) Here are her reactions from the press and her official statement:

Official Statement:

“When we made Brooklyn, we had no idea of what was to come. It is the most personal film I have ever done, the hardest one too. I am honoured to represent this film with my friends – John, Nick, Finola, Yves, Colm, Amanda. This has all been a dream. To see how the film has been embraced has been heartwarming. Thank you so very much to The Academy – you are a group of people I respect greatly and to be recognized by you means so much.”

From Independent.ie:

Speaking to RTE Ten on Thursday night, following the nominations announcement, she said she had just moved in to her new apartment in New York. “It was my first night in this apartment and I was still kind of getting used to the New York traffic so I had my hear plugs in my ears and I actually had the best night’s sleep I’ve had in days because I was a bit jet-lagged,” she said. “I was finally getting to sleep, I was in a really deep sleep which was weird considering what was going on today, and about 8 o’clock, half eight, mam ran in and all I could hear was, ‘We’re going to the Oscars, we’re going to the Oscars!’

“It was kind of muffled and I couldn’t make out what she was saying but she had tears in her eyes and I pulled out my ear plugs and she was able to tell me the news straight away. Everyone from home started calling me. It’s wonderful. It’s a huge honour to be recognised now a second time, it’s unreal,” she said. “I think to have gone through something like that when you are young, it was great, but to a certain extent it does go over your head a bit which is good.”

Behind Blue Eyes – Saoirse’s Interview for Palm Springs Life

Saoirse talked to Brantley Bardin from Palm Springs Life about her journey through Brooklyn, receiving the International Star Award at Palm Springs International Film Festival and more, read it below:

With a face that seems to come from another era, one so expressive that it could have served her well as a great silent film star, Irish actress Saoirse Ronan creates characters and produces performances that writers describe as “ethereal” and “otherworldly.”

Offscreen, however, Ronan is disarmingly unpretentious and a creature very much of her time. She professes to love basketball, swimming, and surfing. Three of her favorite movies of the last year include the über-popular titles, Trainwreck, Spy, and Inside Out. Best of all, she’s charmingly prone to reflexive self-deprecation: When conversation turns to a quick discussion of her rhapsodic pale, blue eyes, she says with a wry lilt, “Ah, yes, my eyes. My selling point. I’m, actually, a terrible actress, but the blue eyes, for some reason, seem to keep me going!”

In many ways, it seems, the Emerald Isle actress (whose first name is pronounced SEAR-sha) is a normal, funny, and endearing young woman of 21. Her prodigious work, however, is as far from normal as Ireland is from the Ivory Coast. With its heady mixture of art house and major studio work, her filmography is one most actresses twice her age can only dream about.

Saoirse talks to Deadline about ‘Brooklyn’

Saoirse has recently talked to Deadline about the parallels between between the life of her character, Eilis Lacey, in ‘Brooklyn’, and her own. A new portrait was released with the article, and we have added it to our photo gallery.

Saoirse RonanHow did you get involved with this project?

I heard about it over two years ago now—I had read the book years before that when I was in my mid-teens. I really loved Colm Toibin’s writings, especially of women anyway. The script just came to me—it was Nick Hornby, so of course, you’re immediately interested. I knew this was the first Irish project that I wanted to do. It was really important for me to find the right first one, and it would have to be strong and mean something to me. A couple of weeks after that, John (Crowley) flew over to Dublin to meet me, and we chatted about it in relation to his life and moving away from home, and I was just about to move away from home, so I had no idea how much the story was going to resonate with me when I did make that trip. It’s been one of those things that, to this day, has just become more and more personal as it’s gone on.
