We are starting a new tradition over @ I Heart Saoirse, in which we review the high points of Saoirse’s career at the end of yeach year. Our very first YEAR IN REVIEW is about an eventful one, featuring many award nominations and new film productions. Come along!
Following a very busy end of 2015, Saoirse started 2016 receiving a nomination at the Academy Awards for her work in ‘Brooklyn’ (x), a film that got her over 50 Best Actress nominations through the season. Still in January, it was announced that Saoirse had been cast as lead in ‘Lady Bird’, Greta Gerwig’s directorial debut (x). The month ended with the release of the first promotional still from ‘The Seagull’ (x).

2016
In February, Saoirse starred in Hozier’s music video for ‘Cherry Wine’, which benefited domestic abuse charities worldwide including the Irish charity Safe Ireland (x, x). Less than a week after the video’s release, Saoirse was cast as the lead in ‘On Chesil Beach’ (x), a film based on the 2007 book by Booker Prize-winning novelist Ian McEwan – who also wrote the novel ‘Atonement’, the film adaptation that resulted in Saoirse’s first Oscar nomination. This was also the month in which Saoirse started promoting her Broadway debut on ‘The Crucible’ (x).
In March, we got the first trailer for ‘Loving Vincent’ (x), a Vincent Van Gogh biopic that tells his story through interviews with those depicted in his paintings. Saoirse received her 9th nomination at the Irish Film and Television Awards for ‘Brooklyn’, which resulted on her 7th win – she’s been winning every year since 2009. In May, Saoirse took part in the charity fundraiser Red Nose Day, which aims to help millions of kids around the world (x).
On the second semester of the year, Saoirse was busy filming ‘Lady Bird’ (x) and ‘On Chesil Beach’, and promotions have been on hold for a while. She has 4 film productions set to be released in 2017: ‘The Seagull’, ‘On Chesil Beach’, ‘Loving Vincent’ and ‘Lady Bird’. Apart from ‘On Chesil Beach’, which she is still filming, all of them are currently on post-production.
